Tim Fisher
Tim Fisher is a leading expert in facilitation and participatory methods in social work, with 20 years of experience, including roles as a local authority manager and Principal Social Worker. Currently, he is the National Practice Lead with Kinship, an NGO dedicated to supporting kinship families.
Tim is also the founder of Relational Activism, an organisation that works with local authorities on advocacy and participatory methods. Through this work, he collaborates with Pathfinder local authorities and organisations across the UK to develop innovative approaches that empower families and communities in social care.
He completed his Master’s in Social Work (MASW, Distinction) at Cardiff University in 2007, where his research focused on empowerment models in practice. Over his career, he has played a key role in developing Family Group Conferencing, peer advocacy, and other participatory approaches that promote meaningful parental inclusion in decision-making.
Alongside his practice, Tim is a Co-Investigator with the National Institute for Health and Care Research, contributing to national research on social work and community-based approaches. His work is widely published in Community Care, The Ecologist, and the Stanford Social Innovation Review.
Through his leadership and research, Tim remains committed to fostering collaborative, relational, and community-driven approaches that centre the voices of families in social care.
