Sammi Fitz-Symonds

Sammi is a researcher and law tutor at Cardiff University, specialising in children’s social care law and policy. With a background in law and social science, she has contributed to multiple studies on parental advocacy, child protection policy implementation and family engagement in social care. Previously, she led a study on advocacy in children’s social care at the Children’s Social Care Research and Development Centre (CASCADE).

Currently pursuing a doctorate at Cardiff Law School, Sammi takes an interdisciplinary approach to her research and teaching drawing on insights from law, social policy, and lived experience. Her work is shaped by first-hand knowledge of the children’s social care system, offering a unique perspective on the challenges faced by families and the professionals who support them.

Through her research, Sammi is committed to bridging the gap between policy and practice, ensuring that legal frameworks and social care interventions empower families, uphold children’s rights, and promote meaningful participation.
